American artist Judith L. Ritter presents her thrid annual silk painting show at Ikeda's VEGA Gallery, featuring exotic flowers and women from the Land of Aloha Spirit, Hawaii. Birds of Paradise, Hibiscus, and Spider Lillies float around island ladies on silver blue backgrounds. While each year's theme differs, as seen by the range of the 2001 "Women of Asia" and the 2002 "In the Garden" shows, her style continues to mature into a self-described "stylized realism." While strongly influenced by traditional Japanese scrolls and woodblock prints, her desire to capture moments of everyday life makes her silk paintings uniquely contemporary. This "Stylized Realism" is also making its debut in this show of two paintings in the Yuzen kimono painting style.

Herb Ritz Exhibition

9/18 - 9/29

An exhibition of American photogra-pher Herb Ritts (1952-2002) whose images glorified the well known helping to mythologise celebrity in the 1980's and '90s, will be held at the Daimaru Museum (Shinsaibashi). Ritz relied on clean, graphic compositions that often portrayed models and celebrities in the visual language of classical Greek sculpture.
